Multi-Trauma in the Older Patient: A Case EMS Can Learn From
In this video, CareerCert and University of Texas Medical Center faculty and physicians explore the pathophysiology, therapy, and the lessons learned in the care of an older patient who suffered significant multi-system trauma. This case is bound to challenge the newer and seasoned medic alike in its complexity. Dr. Salazar and his team of physicians and EMT-paramedic educators share critical lessons learned in the care of this patient.
About the Presenters
Dr. Maria Box is a first-year Emergency Medicine resident at UTSW Medical Center, performing her clinical duties at UT Clements Hospital, Parkland Hospital, and Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. She plans to continue to develop her strong interest in EMS and pre-hospital medicine throughout her residency.
Kenny Navarro serves as chief of EMS education development at UTSW Medical School. Kenny also serves as a content consultant at the American Heart Association. Kenny is a volunteer who specializes in teaching basic and advanced resuscitation courses in developing countries around the world.
Dr. Paul Rosenberger has over 30 years of EMS experience, with over 20 years of adult education instruction. Currently, Dr. Rosenberger is the associate director of the EMS continuing education program at UTSW and an adjunct faculty member for the Emergency Services Administration BAAS program at the University North Texas – Dallas.
Dr. Gil Salazar serves as the medical director of EMS education at UTSW and oversees both initial and continuing education of area EMS professionals. He practices clinically at Parkland Hospital Emergency Department. Dr. Salazar is dually board-certified in emergency medicine and EMS and serves as core faculty for the emergency medicine residency and the EMS fellowship programs of UTSW Medical Center​.
