Online Continuing Education Policy
- 100% of your NREMT continuing education credits can be earned using CareerCert regardless of the curriculum required. Please reference your state to see which program you need.
- We offer both self-paced courses (F3) and virtual instructor-led training courses (F5) to help meet the requirements for National Registry Renewal.
Emergency Medical Responder Recertification:
- The EMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 16 hours of continuing education to recertify. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component.
- National Component – 8 Hours: The National Component requires EMTs to complete 8 hours of approved continuing education. A maximum of 3 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 8 hour requirement and must be state or CAPCE approved.
- State/Local Component – 4 hours: If specific local and/or state are not specified, these required hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 3 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 4 hour requirement.
- Individual Component – 4 Hours: The individual hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 4 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 4 hour requirement.

Emergency Medical Technician Recertification:
- The EMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 40 hours of continuing education to recertify. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component.
- National Component – 20 Hours: The National Component requires EMTs to complete 20 hours of approved continuing education. A maximum of 7 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 20 hour requirement and must be state or CAPCE approved.
- State/Local Component – 10 hours: If specific local and/or state are not specified, these required hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 7 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 10 hour requirement.
- Individual Component – 10 Hours: The individual hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 10 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 10 hour requirement.

Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Recertification:

- National Component – 25 Hours: The National Component requires Advanced-EMTs to complete 25 hours of approved continuing education. A maximum of 8 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 25 hour requirement and must be state or CAPCE approved.
- State/Local Component – 12.5 hours: If specific local and/or state are not specified, these required hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 8 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 12.5 hour requirement.
- Individual Component – 12.5 Hours: The individual hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 12.5 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 12.5 hour requirement.

Paramedic (NRP) Recertification:
- The EMT National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) requires a total of 60 hours of continuing education to recertify. The model requires continuing education in three components: (1) a national component, (2) a local/state component, and (3) an individual component.
- National Component – 30 Hours: The National Component requires Paramedics to complete 30 hours of approved continuing education. A maximum of 10 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 30 hour requirement and must be state or CAPCE approved.
- State/Local Component – 15 hours: If specific local and/or state are not specified, these required hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 10 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 15 hour requirement.
- Individual Component – 15 Hours: The individual hours are considered flexible content. You may use any state or Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) approved EMS–related education to fulfill these requirements. A maximum of 15 hours of distributive education may be used to meet the 15 hour requirement.
